Great Blue Heron

This shot was one of my first digital photographs taken with an Olympus P&S early one fall morning.

Oh my, Jack, this is really wonderful. What blows me away is the highlight in the heron's eye which is also in the reflection.

@Suzanne: Suzanne, what amazes me is that it was captured with a 4MP P&S. Maybe I don't need that D700 which I have been lusting for.

@Jean-François: To refer to one of my photographs as "so zen" is the highest of compliments. Once I get through playing around, which has been great fun, I intend to focus on creating zen-like images. The simplicity and purity and clarity of Zen speaks to my soul.

Great compo indeed, with a fine crop. Beautiful lights everywhere... it's amazing how the image is structured... almost b&w up above... and in colors in the bottom... nice attitude of this heron... awaiting for his next flight... :-)

Jack, this is incredibly beautiful. A photograph which I believe proves the fact that it's not the camera, but the person behind the lens who makes the picture. Your eye for the shot is amazing and a joy to behold.
A D700..... Mmmm when I win the lottery ha ha

@EYES WIDE SHUT: Paul - what I believe is that if I never went online or read any forums, and if I junked all of the photography magazines (most of which are marketing tools), I would be 100% happy with my D300. It's a terrific camera, and if the truth be known, more camera than I can really handle.

Love this!! the reflection of the sky is beautiful...as is the silhouette...and the light in his eye is amazing!!! Your response to Paul is so true....the more we read about newer things the more we think the ones we have are not good enough. I try not to read the adds.....just the articles on other things.

@Mary: Looking at the cameras used by people on aminus3 confirms what we already know, and know all to well, it is always the photographer that matters most. It's not that equipment can't make a difference, but even iphones take pretty good pictures.

@Francesc B.: P&S means point and shoot, i.e., not DSLR. I remember that it was an Olympus, but I don't remember what the number was.

@amy: It also says something about a person with a Nikon D300 lusting after a D700.
