Barbara from Florida, United StatesExceptional! Well composed. I like how the scene fades into the fog or haze. 11 Feb 2009 5:11am bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaWow! The lighting is just amazing! I like how the wind (my assumption) has gathered momentum from the right, changing the hue and contrasts of the frame as it move left. Gorgeous work 11 Feb 2009 11:20am Alivia from Saint-Etienne, FranceQuelle lumière, John, quelle perspective et comme la teinte sépia va bien à l'image, elle traduit la chaleur et peut être la pesanteur d'un jour d'été, j'aime beaucoup le traitement. 11 Feb 2009 11:27am Laurie from New Jersey, United StatesTerrific mood in this shot. The foggy atmosphere is wonderful and the coloring is beautiful. 11 Feb 2009 11:57am Ron from Saint Louis, United StatesA real beauty, Jack ... I'm particularly drawn to the subtlety of the tones ... ron 11 Feb 2009 2:09pm Ajay from Pune, IndiaYou last response will help to curb my desire for D300. Thanks and don't worry... you secret will now go with me only. The panoramic view of the shot is beautiful and that sepia tone is just perfect. 11 Feb 2009 2:24pm @Ajay: Actually the sepia tone was created by the light itself; it was not done in the digital darkroom, Ajay. Thank you for your kind words. dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United StatesLove the atmosphere in this one. a great house in the background. Location, location, location! 11 Feb 2009 2:38pm @dogilicious: You couldn't be more right. Not far behind is timing, timing, timing. Ninni from Belo Horizonte, BrazilWonderful, I like the colour and the softness... 11 Feb 2009 2:39pm Hema Iyer from Bangalore, IndiaFantastic location+ Beautiful light+ windy and foggy atmosphere+ great photographer = Splendid shot 11 Feb 2009 2:56pm Anthony Lambert from Bielefeld, GermanyTwo golden shots one after another and both very good. 11 Feb 2009 3:50pm Cricket from Huntsville, United StatesReally amazing picture. So soft but so vivid. 11 Feb 2009 4:03pm @Cricket: Tammy, this morning I printed it using a Fine Art Mat template on Matte paper. The problems with these kinds of photographs is that they generally require custom mats and frames. This is clearly my favorite of all of the beach series (there are more to come), and actually one of my favorites of all time. Taking the photograph was a holy moment; it was very much being in a different dimension of reality. It needed almost no processing. Pretty much, what you see is what I saw (it was more of a mystical seeing). In times past, I have tried to re-capture such moments. Now I know that that is futile. One simply gives thanks and realizes what an incredible blessing life is. Steve Rice from Olympia, United StatesFabulous! The light in this one is spectacular. In fact, I like everything about this super image. 11 Feb 2009 4:31pm NarB from Bruxelles, BelgiumLantastic light, I like very much this soft processing. 11 Feb 2009 6:45pm Diane Schuller from Hythe, CanadaThis is exquisite -- pure gold! Wow, absolutely stunning. The composition of course adds to this but wow did you get this right! 11 Feb 2009 6:53pm @Diane Schuller: Thanks, Diane; this absolutely is as good as I can do; no, it is better than I can do. The entire experience was a phenomenal gift. The exquisite quality of light and the way that it reflected off of the windows was very brief. I felt like Ansel Adams must have felt when he took his "Moonrise Over Hernandez" photograph (how's that for hubris!!); his son Michael, who was with him, said that by the time he got a second shot off, the light was off of the cemetery. Somewhere recently, I heard a photographer speak of two essential ingredients, preparation and patience. When the moment of opportunity is so brief, you can't be thinking about your equipment and your settings. It all felt incredibly intuitive. If I can get one photograph a year like this, I will consider myself blessed. Aurélie from Bretagne, FranceHello, 11 Feb 2009 7:36pm baobab from Cambridge, United Stateslovely light... I really like the way the scene melts away into the haze of light. ... and don't go wishing for a different camera. light, patience, timing, and the D300 are what made this happen :-) [the D300 really does some interesting things in extreme light conditions - both Diane and I have had it reveal to us images with a similar sepia tone] 11 Feb 2009 9:04pm @baobab: You are absolutely right! I have found the D300 to be a magnificent camera. Most of my low light work is done with a tripod such that noise is not an issue. When I do hand held photographs in low light, I have 3 different excellent noiseware plug-ins. Plus, and this is a big plus, I am drawn more and more back into black and white where I tend to like a little bit of noise. I simply need to pay attention to the quotes that I have been posting. The desire for a D700 really as zip to do with need. Marcia from Glendale, OR, United StatesLovely image showing the golden hour and light. 11 Feb 2009 9:09pm Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomIt's such a beautiful shot.... the light and color are excellent, couldn't add anything to it. 11 Feb 2009 11:16pm marianne from FranceEden is here ... what a mervellous picture ... a dream , it's a dream ... 12 Feb 2009 12:22am Fishit from Tealtown, United StatesThe golden hour, it is good morning or evening, I like the scene. 12 Feb 2009 12:41am Sarah Schneider Photography from Lancaster, United StatesMagnificent! What else is there to say that hasn't been said? I feel like I was actually there. =) 12 Feb 2009 1:44am Sharon from Los Angeles, United StatesB.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L.....
