Foggy Morning BarnPosted by john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 7 March 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio. There are wonderful old barns all over our area. And a foggy morning is just perfect for capturing them.

Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New ZealandYou are correct! That fog really gives the image feeling and intrigue! 7 Mar 2009 5:48am @Steve Rice: Actually that's a kind of moss on the trees. The trees are in bud, but nothing is leafed out yet. Suzanne from Huntington Bch, California, United StatesLove the fog...love the barn...very nice. 7 Mar 2009 7:01am EYES WIDE SHUT from United KingdomA beautiful location and you've captured the ambience so perfectly here, Jack. Characterful and beautiful 7 Mar 2009 7:23am lydia from Paris, FranceVery nice atmosphere , I like the mist and the moss on the trees , I thought it was leaves . Beautiful ! 7 Mar 2009 7:30am k@ from Paris, FranceLove your soothing shots and these soft green & blonde tones in the mist are marvelous* 7 Mar 2009 8:05am Mathilde from Fontainebleau, Francethe morning fog that I love so much! beautiful softness! 7 Mar 2009 8:36am Anna.C from LA ROCHELLE, Francevery nice composition with the barn and fence ! love the misty atmosphere ! 7 Mar 2009 9:37am Alivia from Saint-Etienne, FranceLa brume et le brouillard sur la solitude de cette maison isolé, quelle atmosphère, bravo John. 7 Mar 2009 9:50am Mary from PA, United StatesA Great capture of the stillness of morning in the country! Love it!! 7 Mar 2009 11:54am Scene by Sharon Photography from Kingston, Ontario, Canadawhat a beautiful image - I love it! 7 Mar 2009 1:15pm Barbara from Florida, United StatesBeautiful scene. I like how you framed and composed the shot and keeping the fence gate in the frame. 7 Mar 2009 1:20pm @Barbara: Thank you, Barbara; I took several shots of the barn and having the gate in the frame along with the end angle of the barn was important to me. @Barbara: You may have noticed that most of my quotes are not directly about being a better photographer. I agree with Jay Maisel who said, "If you want to become a better photographer, become a better person." I think that it was that same understanding that made Zack Arias's video so incredibly compelling. It's not that we work on becoming better people in order to become better photographers. We work on becoming better people because that's why we are here. The nice byproduct is that we end up also becoming better photographers. bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaThis is simply stunning, Jack! The fog that is hovering around the barn and even more so in the trees sets such a fantastic mood. Your composition is perfect. 7 Mar 2009 1:26pm @bluechameleon: Thanks, Sharon; I thought that this might be your kind of image. Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, CanadaGreat shot. I can feel the moisture in the air. 7 Mar 2009 1:40pm @Lee: There definitely was moisture(not rain) in the air; you needed a towel that morning. Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesJust perfect. Looks like an orchard on the other side of the fence. 7 Mar 2009 1:45pm @Chris Parr: I think that it is an orchard, Chris. A short distance from where this photograph was taken, there is a huge Nature Preserve with a maze of trails. Bertrand Duhamel from Granby, CanadaYou nicely captured the beautiful mood of this scene. Very well done Jack ! 7 Mar 2009 2:01pm zOOm from Paris, FranceThe fog enhances its part of mystery and story... There's something here, looking at these old barns, like ours in France, a part of nostalghia I guess, of times that were tough but so authentic... the time of childhood also. 7 Mar 2009 2:20pm @zOOm: Thanks, Florence; you may have hit on why this photograph and the one yesterday just might have something to say during these tough times. zahai from Berlin, GermanyBeautiful... love the mood, the fog makes the scene calm and mysterious... great job :) 7 Mar 2009 2:58pm Michael Rawluk from Williams Lake, BC, CanadaYou just can't beat foggy morning shots. This is terrific. 7 Mar 2009 3:37pm Don from spokane, United StatesI agree that a fine barnyard enveloped in fog makes a magical kind of photo opportunity. I like the gate as a counterpoint to the position of the barn. The fences, especially the one going back through the picture, help with the general setting. A fine picture. 7 Mar 2009 4:00pm @Don: Thanks, Don; the gate is absolutely integral to the photograph. And I'm a sucker for fences of any kind. Diane Schuller from Hythe, CanadaI alway love fog images and this one is no different. Very well composed Jack especially by including the wood gate to balance the barn and tree on the opposite side 7 Mar 2009 4:46pm @Diane Schuller: Thanks, Diane; as I mentioned earlier, the gate is essential to the integrity of the photograph. It's actually further to the right side than I would have liked, but when I composed it closer in to the barn, I lost the end view of the barn. Photograph unfortunately does involve compromises. Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceNice foggy atmosphere, quiet and pleasant place. 7 Mar 2009 5:50pm Don Smith from California, United StatesBeautiful foggy day image. I like that you left the foreground fence to create a sense of depth in the image - well done. 7 Mar 2009 5:59pm Peggy M. from somewhere in, FranceA peace sensation invades me on your photography, I feel there well, an unreal atmosphere. It is a very beautiful image! 7 Mar 2009 7:13pm @Peggy M.: Thank you, Peggy; for my work to do that for even one person is as extravagant a reward as I could possibly hope for. Scott Schilling from San Martin, United StatesI love the barn through the fog - very nice work and composition! 7 Mar 2009 7:38pm @Scott Schilling: Thanks Scott. Observing from North West, United KingdomA lovely shot and a great mood-picture with the fog, I also like the gate in the corner. 7 Mar 2009 8:32pm Manel from Girona, SpainGoos scene. You've captured a special atmosphere. Good porcessing too 7 Mar 2009 9:28pm Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United StatesI love how the gate anchors the lower right corner and gives perspective to your beautiful foggy barn shot. As for your quote, and Zack Arias's video, let's just focus on becoming better people ... I like that. 7 Mar 2009 9:37pm @Judy: My belief, Judy, is that focusing entirely on becoming a better photographer will not necessarily make you a better photographer, and certainly not necessarily a better person; however, focusing on becoming a better person will almost always make you both a better person and a better photographer. Who you are as a person comes through your photography. I don't think that you can fake it. Although it may not be 100% true, when I hear the stories of great photographers, they almost always were neat human beings. And even if you don't become an exceptional photographer, so what!! jamesy from christchurch, New Zealandbeautiful shot i love that foggy mysterious feeling that I get from it 7 Mar 2009 10:16pm marc battault from clermont ferrand, Francebeautiful atmosphere, very gently, in view of flowers on trees, spring is here ! 7 Mar 2009 10:36pm Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United Statesbeautiful shot Jack...lucky you to have the barns nearby.... 8 Mar 2009 12:01am Toni from Eastern Washington, United StatesMuch better than my foggy barn shot, Jack...I can see yours! All kidding aside, this is a great shot. I love old barns. 8 Mar 2009 12:03am @Toni: Me too! JJ from Jersey City, United StatesWish I had some barns and countryside easily accessible, but that aside what a super capture, such a wonderful mood and atmosphere in this shot 8 Mar 2009 1:38am akarui from Kagoshima, JapanBeautiful foggy atmosphere. I like also the trees which are starting to bloom. 8 Mar 2009 1:46am amy from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaI'm a little jealous of the old barns... not too many out here on the island. Looks fantastic, Jack!! Don't have too much fun with the new toy, eh?!! LOL!!! 8 Mar 2009 2:58am @amy: Once I would have said that new toys keep me out of trouble; now I'm too old to get into too much trouble!! jim from sebastopol, United Statesnice job! this looks just like my part of the world.. (West Sonoma County, CA) 8 Mar 2009 2:58am @jim: Great part of the world where you live. Before we retired, we were in North San Rafael, close to West Marin. I've bicycled all over West Sonoma County (spectacular coastal ridge roads). Anita from West Nottingham, United StatesLovely image. Dreamy quality. Great use of fog. I like the border. And, of course, the fence and gate work beautifully. 8 Mar 2009 11:07am willow from United StatesDefinitely perfect - I really like the budding trees and their promise of spring, too. 9 Mar 2009 9:07pm marcel lemieux/star_cosmos_bleu from Bedford.Quebec, CanadaNice atmosphere here ..a great capture my friend 12 Mar 2009 2:19pm Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United StatesCONGRATULATIONS for the People's Choice Award on this 'exceptional' photo, Jack.
