Two Fairy SlippersPosted by john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 4 May 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio. Well I'm back from the Columbia Gorge (totally exhausted). It was a superb workshop. This photograph today was actually plugged into the schedule on April 19. My hunch is that the Fairy Slippers are gone until next year.

Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United Stateswonderful catch...so sad they're gone till next year....Ah...something else to look forward to!! So do tell, how was the workshop???? learn anything you care to share????? 4 May 2009 3:38pm @Susan: Thanks. The workshop was terrific. I learned more about exposure. The huge dynamic range in the waterfalls area of the Gorge, provided lots of opportunity for HDR experience; lots of 5 and 7 exposure bursts. I'm getting better at using it the way that I want to. Also learned that outstanding "blue light" (hour before sunrise; hour after sunset) shots call for f/22. I have done almost no blue light photography; that will be a new area of growth for me. F/22 is true as well for starburst sun shots. My Canon 500D worked very well when I didn't have a macro lens. The workshop confirmed my basic workflow and choices of software. LauraS from Chico, United StatesInteresting choice. One pointing up, the other down, different colors. Interesting composition. 4 May 2009 3:51pm Veronelle from Lens, Francewhy not, it is not clear , the tones are great and the composition ! in french ( je trouve que cela manque de netteté, c'est un peu dommage !) have a nice day John ! 4 May 2009 5:20pm @Veronelle: The softness is quite intentional. I purposely softened a sharp image. k@ from Paris, FranceThe light makes this duet so vivid, they'll dance in a second !! 4 May 2009 5:23pm Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, FranceI agree with Veronelle, warm light and colors are very beautiful but there is a little lack of sharpness on this one. Nice you're back. :-) 4 May 2009 5:28pm @Evelyne Dubos: Thanks, Evelyne. The softness is intentional. Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, CanadaGreat shot Jack. So when do we get to see some blue light shots? 4 May 2009 6:08pm @Lee: Thanks, Lee. Unfortunately, I don't have any blue light shots. That shoot was after dinner and having gotten up at 3:30 a.m., I was beat. However, come to think of it, I must have a few blue light shots from that morning; I'll see if anything is worth posting. Where it is really neat is with lights reflected in water, and I know that I don't have any of those (we were high up in the hills for the morning shoot). PS - checked and I didn't take any shots until past the blue light hour. Guess I have my work cut out for me. ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesGlad you enjoyed yourself.
