Tree in Winter

Posted by
john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 4 February 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

If Christ were coming again tomorrow, I would plant a tree today.

- Martin Luther

I used a little bit of Topaz, which Yellowbear (Bill) put me on to, and some LR, to process this.

(We're at the Coast Wednesday and Thursday. No Internet!)

Canon PowerShot G10 1/125 second F/7.1 ISO 200 19 mm

Nicely done.

bluechameleon from Vancouver, Canada

Is that moss on the tree? I love how the aging process has transformed this into something more. Beautiful shot.

4 Feb 2009 5:17am

@bluechameleon: Yes, that's moss; it's on almost all of the trees and in a variety of colors (colours??).

Suzanne from Huntington Bch, California, United States

My goodness, the underbrush looks so heavy I'm wondering how you ever walked through it. I love all the very subtle colors in this image.

4 Feb 2009 5:46am

@Suzanne: Actually, I didn't walk through it. This photograph was taken from a hard surfaced path that we walk regularly. The fog made the colors even more subtle. You will see the fog better tomorrow.

l'arbre comme une apparition dans le fouillis des branchages, comme un arbre d'un autre temps surgi de l'illusion.

Pretty and Cool Shot :)

zOOm from Paris, France

Terrific colors and great presentation. The frame really suits here ! Well done. A timeless shot for (almost) timeless trees -in the sense, they are here, at every season)... and sometimes have the opportunity to live for a long time. In Paris, we have a very old one, planted just after the murder of Henry IV... in 1607. And he's still alive ! Incredible, no ?

4 Feb 2009 11:49am

@zOOm: Yes, quite incredible, Florence.

Great processing. Kind of surreal looking

4 Feb 2009 2:04pm

Ajay from Pune, India

Is it the way it is processed? Because I am really amazed to see the the shades of the colours and the way they formed around each other.

4 Feb 2009 3:01pm

@Ajay: To some degree, it is the processing, Ajay. Look at tomorrow's photo; it is with almost no processing of the same image.

Ninni from Belo Horizonte, Brazil

Really nice! Beatiful colours I think. Is it the same photo as yesterday? I must say that I like this better. You see the moss in the tree in todays photo.

4 Feb 2009 3:05pm

@Ninni: Yes, it is the same, Ninni. Tomorrow you will see it with almost no processing. I am finding that what people prefer varies greatly, and that, I think, is good!

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

Beautiful shot. I like the processing.

4 Feb 2009 3:57pm

Diane Schuller from Hythe, Canada

I really like the processing in this one too. Sure makes the tree and surroundings look different doesn't it?

5 Feb 2009 12:59am

9 Feb 2009 5:30pm

@Momo: Topaz is a plug-in for editing (; a number of people on aminus3 use it. So far, I have only used it for this photo.
