The Golden Hour

Posted by john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 13 February 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

"When we go to a medicine person or healer
because we are feeling disheartened, dispirited or depressed,
he or she might ask questions like:
'When did you stop singing?'
'When did you stop dancing?'
'When did you stop being enchanted by stories?'"

We are thinking along the same path today. I ask myself these same questions earlier. What a beautiful quote. Lovely image with the dog allowing his owner to take the lead. The water looks rough but the soothing sky softens the entire photograph.

Lovely once again.

13 Feb 2009 5:12am

@Cricket: Thanks, Tammy. Beau is our dog. He actually is Lord of the Universe, and is not inclined to follow anyone's lead (unless it suits him at the time). He is incredible. And he is my spiritual director. The water really wasn't too rough. It was a lovely evening.

Hema Iyer from Bangalore, India

Very pleasant picture. So calm and nice. Beau is a very cute dog. I have seen him in one of your other snaps too

13 Feb 2009 5:25am

@Hema Iyer: Thank you, Hema. Yes, you have seen Beau before. And you will see him one more time in this Coast series.

Monique from Koh Samui, Thailand

Great shot of the golden hour which will be followed by what we call the 'blue' hour when the sun has completely set but the colors in the sky are so beautiful when using a long shutterspeed! The man and his dog are at the right place at the right time, beautiful composition and lighting.

zOOm from Paris, France

Wow ! What a lovely scene... this one just radiates on my screen... invited me to have a long and slow walk along the beach... looking at the horizon... A wonderful and peaceful scene.

13 Feb 2009 2:16pm

@zOOm: Thank you, Florence. Like you, I find that the simplicity of this image invites me inside of the photograph; there is room for the observer. I'm not certain why, but I am always a little surprised to find that others are emotionally affected by a photograph the same way that I am. You also make me reflect on how much I value the aminus3 community, and it is the heart connections that mean the most. (I am delighted to find that this heart connection is not gender specific!)

Toni from Eastern Washington, United States

13 Feb 2009 2:40pm

@Ajay: Thank you, Ajay; you are too kind. Our 20 hrs. at the Coast was an enchanted time. We are fortunate to live so close.

zOOm from Paris, France

You know Jack, emotions are difficult to tell and write sometimes but as a matter of fact, taking picture helps a lot saying things. I've found lots of "love" in your pictures, if it's possible to use this word when I talk about nature photogaphies... Thus, I know that we share some of these similarities or common values. And beeing a woman or a man has (to my opinion) nothing to do with it... ;-)

13 Feb 2009 2:48pm

@zOOm: First, thank you. And then, Right!

Manel from Girona, Spain

Nice tone color and exellent composition. The man and the dog give strength to the scene

13 Feb 2009 3:08pm

@Manel: Thank you, Manel, but that "man" is Ellie, my wife (we were celebrating our 31st anniversary, a second go around for each of us; if I added up my two adventures in marriage, this year would have been my 50th).
