The Bridge at Waldport

Posted by
john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 15 February 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

First of all, Beau wishes to thank you for all of your incredibly perceptive comments yesterday. Plus, Beau says, "You might want to check yesterday's photograph again; my dad got rid of the blue cast (sometimes he's a little sloppy)."

Now, back to the Coast series. It was supposed to rain, but it didn't!

I like the wide open space, one can feel the ocean air, cool on the face. Beautiful.

15 Feb 2009 5:42am

@bluechameleon: Thanks, Sharon!

Tammy/Cricket from Huntsville, United States

Ah....wide open spaces. I bet your dog is spoiled rotten.

This is truly a great image.

15 Feb 2009 5:54am

@Tammy/Cricket: You picked up on that! Thanks for your kind words, Tammy.

Barbara from Florida, United States

The vast openess and haze is inviting to the solitude one needs to renew their spirit. The figure of someone standing there with Beau is a wonderful addition.
Another beautiful place.

15 Feb 2009 6:05am

@Barbara: Thanks, Barbara. That's Beau's mom, Ellie.

une belle composition qui respire la tranquilité !!

15 Feb 2009 6:15am

@rem_la: Thank you. It was incredibly serene that morning.

i like the walk on the deserted beaches in the morning, there is a special mood with the shouts of seagulls, I find it there

15 Feb 2009 6:52am

Diane Schuller from Hythe, Canada

This is great. I love how the bow of the bridge is balanced with your wife and Beau. Nicely composed the way the line from the sand where it meets the water and sky is right on. A very nice image ... and I wish I lived there. (I like the photo of Beau with the blue cast removed) :)

15 Feb 2009 7:06am

@Diane Schuller: Thank you, Diane, for your thoughtful comments. This bridge looks quite ordinary when you are traveling over it, but from the beach it provides a lovely scene.

beautiful landscape and quiet atmosphere ! nice place for the walk of Beau !

15 Feb 2009 11:59am

@Anna.C: We started out way to the south along the ocean; we didn't meet a soul on the beach that morning.

Ajay from Pune, India

I love how the bridge is looking. Either the angle of the bridge is strange or you've really given it an amazing perspective. In any case, the framing is just super class.

Craig from Vacaville, California, United States

Gorgeous! I spent Friday traveling from Coos Bay to just North of Newport. I believe I saw this bridge but, was too sick to get out and photograph it. Great job here!!!

15 Feb 2009 12:54pm

@Craig: Again, so sorry you were sick. You had to go across this bridge to get to Newport, which is a short distance north of Waldport. It looks quite different from the beach. I've crossed it a number of times on a bicycle and have never been attracted to photograph it; it's from the beach that you see the way it climbs from the land mass on the right to that on the left.

Fishit from Tealtown, United States

Nice mood, a lonely quiet walk on the beach, nice work.

serene of beauty !

Toni from Eastern Washington, United States

I do believe I've crossed that bridge before. Are there some tide pools there? I might be thinking of someplace else. This is a great shot - nice composition.

15 Feb 2009 6:44pm

@Toni: That's Hwy. 101 at Waldport; so you probably have. The low morning tide was before daylight; so I don't know about the tide pooling around Walport. There is fabulous tide pooling a little south of Yachats.

missparis from PARIS, France

Seule sur la plage, un rêve !

15 Feb 2009 7:08pm

@missparis: Only in February can you get that kind of solitude on the beach, and even then, it's rare. I actually couldn't believe it.

JJ from Jersey City, United States

Such a long wide open beach, I bet Beau loves frolicking along there

15 Feb 2009 7:54pm

@JJ: When I photograph, Ellie goes ahead. Beau loves to fly back and forth between us. He does the same thing on the trail. (Right now that means that he ends up being a black and white dog!)

Betty from New Jersey, United States

Beautiful composition, and beautiful soft colors! Well done, Jack!

Lesley from Lincoln, United States

Lovely atmosphere, Jack.
I believe my husband and I drove as far south to Waldport on our last trip to Depoe Bay, but I'm not positive. The bridge does look familiar. I love those wide open beaches on the Oregon coast. Lots of great driftwood. Spent quite a bit of time one year looking for glass floats. Finally gave up and bought some at Pyromania in Newport.

Beautiful atmosphere and composition. The shape of that bridge is interesting.
Yesterday picture is much better like this.

16 Feb 2009 12:08am

@akarui: I'm indebted to you, Oliver, for getting me off of the dime to make that color cast correction. Thanks again.

Denise from Perry, United States

Where does this bridge take one? Neat perspective.

16 Feb 2009 3:07am

@Denise: It's on Hwy. 101 and is headed north toward Newport, etc.

Suzanne from United States

Cool...a beach where they allow dogs! Can I run into the water, Mom?

16 Feb 2009 3:26am

@Suzanne: Not if I can help it; I love the beach, don't care much for the water (unlike my brother, Stuart, a golden retriever, who died; Stuart would immediately head for the water).

Linerberry from Sumner, Christchurch, New Zealand

That is one incredible bridge!!!
