Leopard Lily on Hurricane Ridge

Posted by
john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 21 February 2009 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

Leopard Lilies are among my favorites. This was taken on Hurricane Ridge (Olympic NP) early last summer.

I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought,
and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.

Beautiful. Really like the vignetting. I can't believe you found this in the wild. It looks like it came from the florist.

21 Feb 2009 9:41pm

@dogilicious: Thank you. They were all over a particular area of the ridge.

jamesy from christchurch, New Zealand

Gorgeous shot pardon my ignorance but what is vignetting?

22 Feb 2009 12:05am

@jamesy: Vignetting is when you burn in the corners of the frame. In software, you can make it either darker or lighter; you can control how far it comes in, as well as, the shape of the vignette; and, you can feather it. The purpose is to focus attention on the center of the photograph.

It's a pleasure to visit your portfolio, although I'm not too sure about the white vignetting effect on this one (IMHO), still a beautiful flower and a fabulous photo!
