Backyard Torii

Posted by
john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 5 March 2009 in Architecture and Portfolio.

This torii is in our neighbor's backyard up against our fence.

IMPORTANT - If you haven't already seen it, you owe it to yourself to watch Zach Arias's video that was the guest blog on Scott Kelby's Blog, February 18. It already has received over 525 comments. Warning: you need to be patient for the first 2 minutes; please, please stick with it; everything shifts. The URL I'm giving you is from Arias's website

Cool shot... but I have a question... what's a Torii???

5 Mar 2009 9:09pm

@Susan: A torii is a gate. In Japan, it is an entrance to a sacred space. Originally it was the entrance to a Shinto shrine. But later also became the entrance to many Buddhist temples.
