The sea deposits marvelous pieces of wood upon the shore. (You can see from this shot how dramatically different the morning light is.)

The wind speaks not more sweetly to the giant oaks than to the least of
all blades of grass; And he alone is great who turns the voice of the
wind into a song made sweeter by his own living.

Nice straight horizon line here, Jack! The difference in light is amazing, isn't it? The golden light was gorgeous, but this is gorgeous, too.

24 Mar 2009 5:32am

@Toni: Thanks, Toni. At least I don't have to try to justify this light.

Alivia from Saint-Etienne, France

le cimetière des bois flottés, ton image est triste de solitude déversée sur cette plage, des cadavres qui attendent la prochaine grande marée .. je dois être mélancolique aujourd"hui, c'est de ta faute , John, avec cette image !!

24 Mar 2009 12:36pm

@Alivia: Oh, my dear Dane, please do not be sad. Think of it as a wonderful place of solitude, a place of peace and serenity. When I look at driftwood, I see gifts from the sea that have experienced the fullness of life and have deposited themselves on the beach that we might see their beauty, a beauty that only comes with age and experience.

A fine shot of a debris strewn coastal area. The sea always being interesting things and deposits them so we beach walkers will have something to find! :-)

Monique from Koh Samui, Thailand

Oh, I love driftwood ... I drag it back home to put my orchids on, I could go crazy on your beach ;)
Beautiful colors and wideness and the post processing is really beautiful. As for the composition
I think I would have added more of that beautiful foreground to get the horizon out of the middle.

EYES WIDE SHUT from The library of my soul, United Kingdom

An utterly gorgoes photograph, Jack. Oh, don't get me started on driftwood! ha ha
I spend so much time on beaches on Vancouver Island, admiring and photographing the driftwood, so appealing and amazing to English eyes. The shapes and textural variances, the beauty in it's demise, I just love it, and the carvings some of the locals make from it.

24 Mar 2009 6:13pm

@Momo: Thanks, Morris. It is about 1.5 hrs. to this spot from our house (it's less to the Coast itself). I am enjoying my D700. Lately I've been doing a bunch of macro work with spring flowers, and my macro lens is on my D300.

Richard_Irwin from Belper, United Kingdom

A wild stretch of beach, a beachcombers paradise I guess, that morning light looks fresh and clear.

24 Mar 2009 6:13pm

@Richard_Irwin: I hate to say it, Richard, but I took that shot from the road. The best walking is on those beaches where the road has veered away and you have to walk at least 20 min. to get to them.

This is an excellent morning shot, Jack ... lovely colors!
We have a neighbor with a huge piece of driftwood in his front yard, which is very unusual for Florida. I wonder if he brought it back from Oregon! :D

24 Mar 2009 8:26pm

Scott Schilling from San Martin, United States

Wonderful morning photograph - an amazing coastline! The amount of driftwood is also amazing in this location - you could build an entire home from it! The inner water is a great addition to the scene also - great composition!

That light is gorgeous... and the seascape so incredible. Beautiful, Jack!!

Just so you know... I have posted for tomorrow but will be taking a little time off as I did injure my shoulder when I fell. It's an old war wound LOL!! Anyways, I gotta let it heal so that means not doing anything more than what I have to do at work for computer use. I will catch up when I can... ;-)

25 Mar 2009 3:02am

@amy: My only concern, Amy, is that you take care of yourself.
