Yachats From Our New Digs

Posted by john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 23 April 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

We had some great views from the new place where we stayed.
I just have to share that on our walk in the woods on April 21 (not too far from our home), we came upon the most incredible display of Fairy Slippers that I have ever seen. There were patches upon patches on either side of the trail. The patches had 20-30 or more blossoms. In the past, when we came across 3 or 4 in the same spot, we thought that to be exceptional. As the saying goes, "We thought that we had died and gone to heaven!"

"Charity is no substitute for justice withheld."

P J W Miller from Chase Terrace, United Kingdom

According to Oregon Geographic Names, the name Yachats comes from the Siletz language, and means "at the foot of the mountain. According to Wiki that is. A similar view to this one here -----> but much much better, nicely captured rugged coastline

23 Apr 2009 8:36am

@P J W Miller: Thank you. The spout is one of many along that part of the Coast; you see it at high tide.

23 Apr 2009 11:22am

MontereyJohn from Salinas, California, United States

Anybody that quotes Augustine is OK with me. "Love God and do what you want." The trick is in loving God and that informs what you want. Getting the horse in front of the cart isn't all that easy though, is it?

Wonderful image and congrats on your great locale!

23 Apr 2009 11:26am

@MontereyJohn: "Love God"; we could meditate on that for a lifetime. And it certainly is at the heart of the purpose of each of us. I always I liked the first question of the Westminster Confession. What is the chief end of man? Answer: To glorify God and enjoy him forever. We know about the first part, but the second is equally important.

Lee from Fort Frances Ontario, Canada

bluechameleon from Vancouver, Canada

Such an amazing view! There are so many different shades of green in the landscape!

23 Apr 2009 12:24pm

@bluechameleon: Part of what I find, Sharon, is that having a photograph that we can meditate upon enables us to see things we otherwise would have missed.

Don Smith from California, United States

Beautiful area Jack! PS - I love the quotes you add under your images.

23 Apr 2009 1:33pm

@Don Smith: Thanks, Don; as I have mentioned before, the quotes are primarily to keep reminding myself that my first task is to try to become a better human being. If that helps me to become a better photographer, that is just icing on the cake. I struggle daily to live the priorities that I profess (some would say, spout).

observing from North West, United Kingdom

What an utterly gorgeous area, this is very much like the coastline in Northern Spain.
