SILLY TUESDAY - many thanks to all of those who contributed to Silly Tuesday yesterday. Outstanding posts.

It was 108ºF in Corvallis on Tuesday after 106ºF on Monday. We are headed to the Coast on Wednesday where the high has been around 70ºF.

Stunning macro detail. I like how the DOF completely softens out the background.
Heard from you first, but just today on our news about your heatwave. Stay hydrated if you're outdoors.
We know all about those things in the sunshine state.

29 Jul 2009 3:25pm

@Barbara: At least we don't have Florida's humidity (I can remember taking at least 4 showers a day); however, with everyone running their sprinklers, it is more humid than normal. Thanks for your kind words.

Tracy from La Selva Beach, United States

Wow! I love this -It reminds me of a shooting Star, but I've never seen one this color :)
Glad you got out of the heat! We are heading to Oregon next month, but we will only have time to get as far as the Bandon area! I can't wait :)

29 Jul 2009 7:19pm

@Tracy: Thanks, Tracy. Actually we didn't get to the Coast. We've got a slew of extended family that want to crash at our place tonight because we have AC. If we had gone to the Coast, I would be too tired to do the socializing that is expected. Bandon is a terrific place. Be sure to check out the cheese factory; great ice cream. Also, there is a road along the Coast at Bandon; it has several little parks with access to the sea stacks. That short stretch of coastline may be my favorite in the whole state of Oregon. If you are going down Hwy. 101, the place where Pistol River comes out (north of Brookings) has some neat photographic opportunities.

MARIANA from Waterloo, Canada

Jack, this is such a great image! The colours are amazing along with such great detail. It's definitely a spider-like flower.

29 Jul 2009 8:05pm

@bluechameleon: Thanks, Sharon. At 42.2ºC, AC no longer seems a waste of money.

Betty from New Jersey, United States

The color is gorgeous, Jack! Really nice feeling of depth! Bravo! (How do you stand those temps?)

29 Jul 2009 9:07pm

@Betty: Thanks, Betty. Fortunately, we have AC; I had always thought that it was a waste of money, but no longer.

B. Thomas from Arlington, Texas, United States

Judy from Brooksville, Florida, United States

I can't even imagine 108° that far north ... in AZ yes, but in OR? I do believe you, though.
What is your humidity running w/these high temps?

Ohhh, your Backyard Blue is beautiful!

30 Jul 2009 1:54am

@Judy: The humidity is nothing like Florida, but it is a little higher than normal (maybe due to everyone running their sprinklers).

Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United States

Cricket-Tammy from Somewhere in the, United States

Hey there! What is this plant? It is beautiful! We are suffering from the heat as well. Rain is moving into today...we need it. Next week I will be lucky enough to be in San Francisco! I am looking forward to lower temperatures.

30 Jul 2009 6:26pm

@Cricket-Tammy: Sorry, I don't know what it is. SF - my favorite city in the whole wide world; most of my working life, I lived within an hour of the City.

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

Wow! How goregous is this! The clarity is outstanding

Annie Viguié from Bordeaux, France

A very beautiful blue. I like particularly the movement suggested by the shape of the petals of this flower, as a helix ready to turn.

24 Aug 2009 4:20am

@Annie Viguié: Merci, Annie.
