There needs to be at least one monochrome in every series.

The back lighting makes the leaves and moss light up beautifully. A fine black and white image.

16 Aug 2009 1:19pm

@Don: Thanks, Don.

Barbara from Florida, United States

I too, like the backlighting of the moss hanging from the tree limb. The leaves in the background are like palms of hands reaching upward to the sunlight. I like the high contrast in B&W. I followed the link but had to search through to locate images from this trip, also visited the link on the left with your name, great place to see amazing photography. Very nice, Jack.

16 Aug 2009 1:20pm

@Barbara: Thanks, Barb. My technical skills are limited in putting up exactly the right link in the right way.

16 Aug 2009 9:23pm

@Ana Lúcia: Thank you, Ana.

Denise from Duncannon, United States

I was really drawn to the green growth of your previous shots, but this one really has a neat feel to it....

17 Aug 2009 12:10am

@Denise: Thanks, Denise. My main learning growth area these days is with B&W conversions.

Gary Hart from California, United States

This is really nice, Jack. I love black and white but don't seem to be able to see the world that way myself. Did you try burning the lower left (disorganized branches) a bit? In general that area is pretty busy, and in particular that thin horizontal branch tends to pull the eye away from the rest of the scene--anything you can do to discourage the eye from going down there would make this even stronger.

17 Aug 2009 4:12am

@Gary Hart: Thanks, Gary. Point well taken. I think that cloning away the branches so that just the background leaves show might do the trick.

Didier DE ZAN from somewhere, France

Beautiful BW Great light I like it

17 Aug 2009 5:07am

@Didier DE ZAN: Merci.

bluechameleon from Vancouver, Canada

Five stars and absolutely LOVE this in black and white! Wow!!

17 Aug 2009 5:29am

@bluechameleon: Thanks, Sharon. Gary Hart and I have done some editing of the lower left of the photograph to get rid of the busyness of the limbs. The edit has replaced the original. You might go back and give it a look.

Magda from Vancouver, Canada

Both are outstanding! Excellent contrast

17 Aug 2009 5:55am

Barbara from Florida, United States

I loved the image before but definitely this additional crop has made a strong difference. A great study on improving a remarkable image.

17 Aug 2009 1:16pm

@Barbara: Thanks, Barb. The major improvement was in cloning out the lower left branches with the background leaves. The branches were drawing the eye away from the center. Now the eye goes directly to the center of the photograph.

Francesc B. from région parisienne, France

The atmospere and light are wonderful here... tones and contrast perfect.

17 Aug 2009 2:16pm

@Francesc B.: Merci.
