Teasel and Bridge

Posted by
john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 30 August 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

This is the North Bend bridge. The teasel was a lovely shade of purple. The grain (applied in Silver Efex) and the out of focus bridge are intentional.

Dulcie from Danville, CA, United States

This is a departure for you. And a very appealing and successful one at that.
I really enjoy this lovely soft focus.

30 Aug 2009 5:33am

@Dulcie: Thanks, Dulcie. Doing a series can get boring if one doesn't inject a little variety.

30 Aug 2009 2:25pm

Ajay from Pune, India

Is that really an old shot? Or the result of your amazing processing work?

30 Aug 2009 3:09pm

@Ajay: It was shot on our recent Charleston trip. The credit for the processing goes to Silver Efex Pro. Before the conversion, I did soften the bridge a bit more.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

Absolutely beautiful.

30 Aug 2009 3:23pm

@Steve Rice: Thank you.

Barbara from Florida, United States

Indeed a vintage shot. The mood really takes me back in time. (from photography stand point, not age)
The process is an excellent match for the scene. You are correct about variety.
Life can be so rigid and routine, ones creative view can expand life immensely.
Well done, Jack.

30 Aug 2009 3:58pm

@Barbara: Thanks, Barb. What I find with series is that the photographer often sees each shot as quite unique; while to the viewer, they can seem quite similar. For example, I have a whole bunch of what I think are great shots of sea stacks, but I decided to limit myself to one for Am3. Possibly at some future date, I will haul out another one.

Vitor Martins from Lisboa, Portugal

Very nice composition with great processing and tones. I like the DOF and bridge is really nice.

bluechameleon from Vancouver, Canada

Wow! This is so beautiful! Your treatment take one back in time...stunning work Jack!

31 Aug 2009 3:38am

@bluechameleon: Thanks, Sharon. I like the way that it printed, but Ellie is not quite as enamored as I am. One of the best parts about photography is diversity of opinion, both for photographers and for viewers. It certainly makes it easier to just go ahead and try to please oneself.
