Bill Laing from Corvallis, OR, United States

Jack, you are the master of flower imagery!! This is another lovely addition to your portfolio.

21 Sep 2009 4:51pm

@Bill Laing: Thanks, Bill. Am waiting to hear about your experience with your D300s. You are the first person that I know who has one. I love my D300; the only way that I find my D700 to be superior is in low light situations (where you can really crank up the ISO without noise). A plus for the D300 is that the in camera Sensor Cleaning system seems to work very well. I have found it to be next to worthless for the D700. When I first got my D700, I kept the same lens on it from the beginning and the sensor (low pass filter) still picked up dust that the in camera sensor cleaner wouldn't eliminate. Less than 6 weeks later, after going in and cleaning it, it has more specks of dust.

Wow! The quality of light is amazing! Did you use a fill in flash for this shot? The rose looks like velvet. Superb!

@bluechameleon: Thanks, Sharon. No fill flash; just lovely natural light.

Susan from Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States

Beautifully shot Jack, and beautifully processed....It really pops off the screen.......Now a question, since I just had my sensor cleaned over the weekend......If you kept the same lens on the camera....how did dust still get to the sensor???? I thought it's pretty well "sealed" with a lens on the camera.....or am I wrong about that?

21 Sep 2009 10:26pm

@Susan: Must have gotten in when I put the lens on. People with D3s complain about sensor dust all of the time. And that camera has the best seals of any Nikon.

LCImagery from Oregon, United States

Beautiful captured Rose with wonderful detail and the color is superb. I have the D300 as well and have the same complaint with dust on the sensor. I also noticed more often than not that Nikon dose not like the color red..however the rose is just beautiful.

21 Sep 2009 11:20pm

@LCImagery: Actually my dust problem is with my D700. I've even sent it to a Nikon approved service center (Associated Camera Repair in Portland), and the spots remain. None of us can see anything on the low pass filter (which is what you clean); so probably something has gotten behind it. Oh well, I only notice it on things like sky shots narrower than f/9; I've decided to just heal it out and move on. As for my D300, I've only had to open up the camera for cleaning once in almost 2 years; then a simple blower did the job.
