Playing Around

Posted by
john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 10 November 2009 in Art & Design and Portfolio.

For Silly Tuesday, I decided to have some fun playing around with today's photograph. It is a solarization effect created in Nik's Color Efex Pro. For the next few photographs, we will be in the foothills of the mountains of Eastern Oregon.

YESTERDAY'S SHOT - the morning light for yesterday's shot was absolutely incredible. But it was terribly brief. I was shooting very fast, and the shots before and after the one I posted didn't come close in quality. Much in photography comes from being prepared, but much is sheer gift. We have had a lot of dark, cloudy skies lately. From time to time, there is a small break and the sun like a spotlight lights up something just perfectly; often it lasts less than a minute. I can't tell you how many fabulous shots I have missed in the past week because I simply couldn't get out of the car in time. Having the camera out and in hand helps greatly. And there is no substitute for having our eyes open.

bekkah from Pennsylvania, United States

a very cool effect, looks almost like a painting :)

very true about keeping your eyes open and always being at the ready...I took a picture of trees and their gorgeous leaves recently, the very next day ALL of the leaves were gone. sometimes timing really is everything!

10 Nov 2009 2:18pm

@bekkah: Thanks. Right up there with being ready is taking shots while you are waiting for the light to improve, or the scene to in some way get better. If, indeed, things do get better, we can later delete the earlier shot.
