Ranching also is big in this part of Oregon.
Nikon D700 1/400 second F/9.0 ISO 200 45 mm (35mm equiv.)
What beautiful sweeping piece of land! Why, one almost wishes one were a cow! I like the way you made the fencing part of the shot!

Very nicely composed shot,I can just see John Wayne riding into frame (sorry,I bet that sounds stupid to someone who lives in this stunning location)
12 Nov 2009 7:18am

12 Nov 2009 9:41am
Amazing landscape, it seems to go on for miles. I guess if ranching, or agriculture ever give up, it would make a great golf course!

@bluechameleon: Thanks, Sharon. Gotta get you city gals out into the country somehow!!
Beatiful landscape and colors. I like the way the series of almost parallel lines pulls the viewr into the scene.

12 Nov 2009 2:25pm
@Barbara Kile: Thank you.
a perfect landscape in rich colors - huge "wow" effect - excellent capture! :-)
12 Nov 2009 2:28pm
@dabbler: Thank you.
This is a gorgeous pastoral image. I like the fence as a foreground element which helps the distant and very tiny cattle to look so far away. The picture certainly conveys the huge scale of eastern Oregon. Super shot.
12 Nov 2009 4:01pm
@don: Thanks, Don.
Gorgeous colours and I love the way you composed the shot.
12 Nov 2009 4:02pm

So.. where's my horse ? Makes me feel like ridding for hours...
12 Nov 2009 4:41pm
This is superb. The golden grass and light are so fine.
12 Nov 2009 4:47pm
@Steve Rice: Thanks, Steve. Not quite up to your spectacular Mountain Loop (that is one of my favorite drives).
This is another beautiful shot. I love how the view point captures the wire fencing. The peace and quiet of this scene is really captured here, with such vastness....just lovely.

@fabrizio: Thank you. Wish you were on Am3.
I dream to spend holidays one day in a such landscape
12 Nov 2009 9:04pm
Just gorgeous Jack.... beautifully composed, and clarity is just spectacular!!! Wonder how much more special it would be with an 11-18mm lens??!!?? (I'll happily lend you mine, which I hardly ever use!!)
12 Nov 2009 9:18pm
@Susan: Thanks, Susan. I actually have a Sigma 15-30mm that works on a full frame camera (the D700); which is wider than the 11-18mm on a cropped sensor. However, I never use it. The shot today was taken at a focal length of 45mm with a 24-85mm lens; thus I didn't come close to using the width that was available. Everybody raves to a high heaven about the 14-24mm Nikon, but it would be ridiculous for me to invest over $2,000 in something that I would probably never use.
I'ld like to live there, what a landscape !! love tones and colour ...
12 Nov 2009 9:51pm
@Marianne Be.: Merci. (PS - It is isolated and dry.)
Magnifique avec de superbes couleurs :)

@Vitor Martins: Thank you.
Beautiful panoramic vista that you have captured here. I love how the evergreens maintain their uniform height to reflect the varying elevation of the terrain in the background.
12 Nov 2009 11:00pm
@Steven: Thanks, Steven.
Beautiful composition and view. Autumn is a very nice season.
13 Nov 2009 12:04am
@akarui: Thank you. Autumn is a wonderful season.
I absolutely know what you mean about spending a lot of money on a wide angle lens, and then never using it!!!! I spent a bunch on mine, and can probably count the number of times i've used it on 2 hands......but since i own it now, and couldn't get much out of selling it, i'll keep it!!!
13 Nov 2009 12:38am
@Susan: I also have some of those.
This is where I want to be to turn my bad day into a good day.
13 Nov 2009 12:45am
@Ajay: That would work.

13 Nov 2009 4:33am
This is SO beautiful! I love the way the open fields look with soft folds of hills... I agree! I wish I were a cow! ( and they say happy cows are from California!--I think they live here!)
13 Nov 2009 4:44am
That strip of red bushes really makes this. WONDERFUL shot!
