Sky

This is looking across a lake in the Finley Wildlife Refuge.

YESTERDAY - I hope that you noticed the way that Bill was holding his camera; he was supporting the lens with his left hand, exactly what we should all be doing.

Nikon D300 1/1600 second F/9.0 ISO 400 129 mm (35mm equiv.)

Dulcie from Danville, CA, United States

A refreshing shot...an especially memorable sky. I like that broad horizontal format !
I envy Bill his steady hand...I'm back to using my tripod almost always
'cause I just have too much blur otherwise ! ;-(

23 Jan 2010 6:28am

@Dulcie: For Bill's shot today (which was taken about 15 min. before this), he was shooting at ISO 800 and a shutter speed of 1/400. His new D300s handles that high ISO quite well.

Lyl and Roll from Besançon, France

A really peaceful place and a very nice picture.

MrsAmber from West Wickham, United Kingdom

That is beautfiul! I hope you have heard of the (mythical?) Loch Ness Monster from Scotland..if you said this was a picture of the Loch Ness then the monster would definately be what is seen in the water...even with its ripple trail!

23 Jan 2010 10:51am

@MrsAmber: Myth, what myth??? :))

Veronelle from Lens, France

Evelyne Dubos from Le Mans, France

Like the contrast between the beautiful colors in the dark sky and the effect of the light on the water. A feeling of quiet and peace, indeed...

23 Jan 2010 12:03pm

@Evelyne Dubos: Incredible serene. There was a very long wooden walkway that meandered through a swamp before getting to a viewing platform.

tataray from France

J'adore les contraste du ciel. Excellent.

Self-Indulgence from Chicagoland, United States

Very pretty Jack. The sky is a given but the light on the water really sparkles and there's something prehistoric about that tree thing arching out of the water that reminds me of Nessie ;)

23 Jan 2010 5:03pm

LauraS from Chico, United States

Of course the scene is beautiful, as all have expressed. What catches my attention is that ominous blanket of clouds. How interesting they look, the colors!! Magnificent shot.

I love the sea and the trees, but I feel a bit odd with the sky. The color transition is bit weird.

23 Jan 2010 8:55pm

@Xerophytes: Personally, I love the sky. That is my favorite part of the photograph and my reason for posting it. Our diversity of tastes is a major strength of the community of photographers.

24 Jan 2010 12:46am

@akarui: You're right; the sky is strange; that's part of its attraction.

Barbara from Florida, United States

Stunning layer of colors. I like the reflective light on the water in contrast to the darker sky.
