Above the Pond

Old barns are wonderful. This probably is what Bill was shooting two days ago.

WRONG COLOR PROFILES BEING APPLIED - I finally realized that the wrong color profiles has been being applied in Am3 for my photographs. Please take a look at yesterday's shot to see the way it really looked.

Nikon D300 1/200 second F/6.3 ISO 400 135 mm (35mm equiv.)

gorgeous colors!! a wonderful structure and I love the 'green roof' :)

24 Jan 2010 2:38pm

Barbara from Florida, United States

One of the most beautiful red barns I've seen. From an architectual view point it has real design. I like the roof gables, they appear to be functional for ventilation.
The moss growth on the roof adds to the charm. You captured a beautiful setting of colors and textures of the landscape.
I am wonderfing if the water was cropped showing less would benefit the image. I love the title with this so keeping some of the water would relate to it.

24 Jan 2010 2:55pm

@Barbara: Cropped a bunch of the pond to make the barn larger.

Frances Berry from Athens, GA, United States

SOUL AFLAME from The bosom of Mother Nature, United Kingdom

Jack, I hope you will forgive a foolish Englishman here, but what do you mean about the colour profiles being incorrect on AM3? I am intrigued.

24 Jan 2010 6:28pm

@SOUL AFLAME: There are three primary Color Profiles in use these days. sRGB, which has the smallest gamut, is most often used for email and the Web; it also is used by many home and commercial printers. AdobeRGB, a larger gamut, that is often used for Photoshop, and by some printers. And, ProPhotoRGB, which has the largest gamut, and is the default of Lightroom. I use ProPhotoRGB, but when it is sent to my blog, it is an sRGB profile. To be honest, I can't tell much difference in the colors. The sRGB profiles used for emails and the Web look very much like my ProPhoto profile. If I check the box for Preserve Metadata and Color Profiles, everything looks the same to me. However, if I leave the box unchecked, I end up with over-saturated colors. As to what Am3 does, I don't have a clue. I just know that if I want to have my colors look like they do for Photoshop, Lightroom and emails, I need to check that box.

Old bars are one of my favorite subjects (though I have yet to capture a good one. I pass most of them as I'm speedinng down an interstate). This is absolutely fantastic...I love everything about it!

SOUL AFLAME from The bosom of Mother Nature, United Kingdom

Thanks for the clarification Jack, as you've answered a few of my queries there. Often when I post an image, it just does not seem as sharp, nor correctly coloured as it appears on my screen and in my own files, and tone and contrast can be vastly altered. I always shoot with the Adobe sRGB selected as it allows me to make more adjustments if necessary with my RAW files in Paintshop. I will have to try ticking that box to see if it allows my images to retain their original look.

Many thanks Sir
