This is still at the Finley Wildlife Reserve. The tree is very close to the red barn.
This is a wonderful image, Jack. Isn't it amazing how the three of us interpreted the same place in such different ways, for the most part? BTW, thanks for all the "exposure" you have given me over the past several days. Yesterday, Tracy suggested I might have a future in modeling. She may be on to something. As soon as the Pillsbury Doughboy (or the Michelin Man) announces his retirement, I'm going to apply for the gig. See you at the gym.

Great shot...but I think this tree needs some house-keeping. ;-)
(You and Bill sound like you have entirely too much fun together !!!)
But on the serious side...how great that you have a photography buddy.
We should ALL have at least one of those !!!

Great capture Jack. I love backlighting.
29 Jan 2010 6:11am
i've heard mistletoe is a parasitic
that robs the tree of nutrients
(unlike a kiss, which nourishes)
29 Jan 2010 6:30am
@Seraphine: Let's hear it for kisses :))
This silhouette is wonderful, great job!
29 Jan 2010 6:33am

It's very mysterious that impression! It looks like the outstretched arms toward the sky of a tree in distress! A N / B Brilliant!
29 Jan 2010 8:15am
What a beautiful tree! Love the beautiful dark shapes against the white sky!
29 Jan 2010 8:37am
Good morning Jack! Like a true master ... teach us other possibilities, a different way of seeing these magnificent trees! You have the ability to surprise! something I like very much ... break molds and manifest your artistic pulse with great naturalness. A work style fresh and beautiful. This image is intriguing and mysterious, while spectacular and shocking! FWR ... art in your hands! Many kisses dear Jack! and thank you very much for good tutoring! Adela

29 Jan 2010 1:37pm

Wow! This is sensational Jack! Love the high contrast and silhouette!
29 Jan 2010 2:08pm
Beautiful work on this image . As you know I love strong contrast in BW images . And this naked tree deserves nothing but this kind of processing .
29 Jan 2010 3:35pm
Beautiful silhouette effect and dramatic mood.
29 Jan 2010 3:59pm
Beautifully taken shot with the back lighting & B & W processing
29 Jan 2010 4:43pm
I like your silhouetted image.
That's a lot of mistletoe in one tree ........ we see it here also.
29 Jan 2010 4:49pm
It does make for a super silhouette.
29 Jan 2010 4:54pm
Great shot! Superb silhouette!
29 Jan 2010 4:59pm
Very nice silhouette.
29 Jan 2010 5:13pm
I love the vertical presentation here and the serious contrast. Are those.. ALL?? squirrel nests or is that some.. tree structure?
29 Jan 2010 5:51pm
@Self-Indulgence: I think that it is mistletoe.
Not dissimilar to the one I did a couple days ago, Jack, but yours mystifies me. Is it monochrome, or do I see a hint of blue in that grey sky?
29 Jan 2010 6:03pm
@LauraS: It's a monochrome conversion in Silver Efex Pro.

29 Jan 2010 8:26pm
This is a stunning shot! I love the detail brought out in the shapes and patterns of the tree.
29 Jan 2010 8:29pm
This is just terriffic! As a lover of b&w tree photo's....this one would have to have some wall space.
29 Jan 2010 9:43pm
Beautiful capture to reveal the tree's dense canopy as it contrasts nicely against the sky. The loss of leaves always reveals the squirrels' nests.
29 Jan 2010 11:21pm
Beautifully done Jack....would be lovely, large, on a beautiful wall !!!
30 Jan 2010 12:41am
Super back-lighting, silhouette ... You know, when I saw it, the first word that jumped into my mind was, "Hippie", now is that crazy or what!
30 Jan 2010 1:42am
Wow Jack! Beautiful. Reminds me of wood block prints.
30 Jan 2010 3:07am
A beautiful silhouette, Jack. Excellent processing on this one.
30 Jan 2010 3:58am
Works for me - nice Processing Jack
30 Jan 2010 4:46am
Yes, what Barry said... couldn't put my finger on it until I read his comment that this reminds him of a wood block print. Beautiful, Jack!!
30 Jan 2010 5:09am
me gusta la silueta de este árbol, excelente procesado!!
30 Jan 2010 5:44am
Wonderful composition, I like your processing in Silver Efex Pro. From my early days of pen & ink drawings I find the intricate patterns of bare trees like this attractive. I like the strong contrast.
30 Jan 2010 4:21pm
Beautiful silhouettes. Great toning.
30 Jan 2010 6:39pm
superb silhouette of tree and strong contrast ! love it !
31 Jan 2010 8:01am
