Herons do no like to be disturbed. When it flew off, it was squawking bloody murder. Unfortunately I didn't have my monster telephoto lens. Thank goodness I had my D300 for the 70-300mm. This was a long way off and overly cropped.

CS4 WORKSHOP - I realized even more how much I want to use Photoshop for what only it can do. My processing is done primarily with Lightroom and plug-ins. The big plus of Photoshop is layers and blending modes and changing the opacity. The product manager from onOne Software did a noontime demonstration. It was superb and worth as much as, if not more than, the main workshop.

NIKON D300 1/250 second F/7.1 ISO 400 450 mm (35mm equiv.)

You made the most of this shot by emphasizing the crop with the dark vignette.
It may not be what you had wanted, but it is handsome none the less. :-)
The workshop sounds valuable. It's always exciting to learn so much and open new doors for yourself !

Good morning friend! Magnificent sign of freedom ... take flight! Your skill and your reflexes with a 450mm tele have caught the point in time. You have frozen the moment the effort! I love the vignetting of the image and composition. The bird in the center of the image with a background of fantastic trees! Very patient and very successful Master Jack! Many kisses for Saturday ... tomorrow we'll see! Adela!

Jack this image would lose its beauty if you had captured him in still frame, the movement adds to the power and beauty of the photo

This is a wonderful shot, Jack. I like the colours and vignette. I always wanted to do a Photoshop workshop or course but hadn't gotten around to it yet. I'm glad you had fun.

Self-Indulgence from Chicagoland, United States

You can see you were pushing the limits of the camera on this one because the edges aren't as sharp but never the less it's a stunning image given we rarely see these birds so up close and personal. The one that I had filmed didn't seem to care we were circling around it but it also was in a protected park and was probably used to getting its photo taken. It's good to see wildlife like this still out there and flourishing!

The best thing about photoshop is that you can turn "accidents" into art pieces ;) Not all but some.
The vignette here is excellent and so are the colours.

A great shot...and yes they do move around around a lot but once in a while you get them swallowing a fish or darting their beak in water or again in flight like this one...nice crop...
