Logs vs. the Coquille Lt. House

Posted by
john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 12 June 2010 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

Some kids would prefer to climb on logs :)) (I had some great shots without the kids, but they trumped everything. In fact I think that all of the photographs in this series are better when there are people in them. This has been a major transformation for me.)

Beautiful warm tones and I love the vivid colours. A wonderful shot, Jack. I love people in photos - a few years back I didn't like it, but now I feel it "adds life" - I might feel differently in a few years time again... ;)

Lovely contrasting colours.
I too like people in photographs - how to get a willing subject is my problem - courage!

I like this with people it; they add scale. Interesting colors for this New England gal, where all lighthouses are white. :D

Oh Jack, I would loved to live in such a place... so colorful... and you feel secure when the sea is raging... a lovely shelter, for sure.

Including people in the landscape does give it an entirely different feeling! People can connect to the place in a way they can't when it's just the landscape....Beautiful shot, and I love the "full of life" feeling the kids add!

So wonderful to hear Jack. I too love having a person or people in an image. It gives the scene some life. I'm thinking a lot of those ones you took at the beach with a person in the distance or that woman running on the beach, in particular. Great work.

Logs are always preferred! :) It's still a beautiful light house in wonderful colors. Its true having people in the picture changes everything.

Yep, the kids give it more life, but I am utterly fascinated by the wide variety of shapes and styles in American lighthouses. This is yet another example of this unique form of architecture for a functional building.

Normally, like you, I avoid people in my shots unless the shots are of people. I feel like they spoil the landscape or whatever I am trying to capture, often dressed oddly or out of sync with what I'm doing or even doing something that seems off. There is a knack though to finding people and images that fit and maybe to accepting that people.. just fit no matter what. They wouldn't be there if they didn't. Good for you trying something new Jack.
