One Last Look

Posted by john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 29 June 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

One last look at Upper Horsetail Falls. Note the two people under the falls; that's where I was for yesterday's shot. Thin streams - what you may have missed on yesterday's shot were the thin streams coming down on the right of the main flow. This finishes up the Columbia Gorge section of the waterfalls workshop. Tomorrow we head to Silver Falls State Park.

"Seven Features You’ll Find in the Camera of the Very Near Future" - Scott
Bourne has written a very interesting article. http://photofocus.com/2010/06/28/seven-features-youll-find-in-the-camera-of-the-very-near-future/ Four of these features are significant enough for me that I will wait for at least three of them before upgrading in the future: 1. More dynamic range (this is the most important feature); 2. Higher ISO; 3. Built-in HDR; and, 4. Built-in Neutral Density filter (I love taking waterfalls photographs). If the features are delayed long enough, maybe I'll save some money :))

That's a wonderful one. The falls trajectory is so strong here. And the scale again really comes into play from a greater distance. Very beautiful spot.

I already thought of that perspective when I saw your shot from yesterday and even from up here it's amazing. The force of the water is incredible, I don't think you can have a nice shower under it :)

I like that you had people to capture in this shot, adding scale to the image ... and the thin streams, which I did see yesterday (and didn't know what to call them), were a pretty veil of water, seen again today.

Ooooh and I like your comments about the camera of the future...I will wait too. I love this piece. The colors and contrast are amazing. The main falls look like something being poured from a kettle at an angle - the thin streams are really cool (ya gotta look) but I do miss the bearded(?) man from the other day...still chuckling over that one. Your images are just absolutely superb, Jack - thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy them! - Denny

No longer funny how it changes the perception of the same image as the photographer's point of view and the elements to work with him in the process!. Excellent work as embodied in an environment and the Extraordinary color! Fantastic image friend Jack! As if the rain fall on me as a delightful shower! Muchos besos y gracias amigo! Adela

I can see why they call it a horsetail, it does look like one jutting out like that. It's almost like the water is jetting out of a pipe its so controlled. Nice capture.

A great viewpoint where the waterfall seems to come out of nowhere and yet when the water hits bottom, you can see the force of the waterfall by the amount of splashback.
