TODAY is our eldest son's 46th birthday. Happy Birthday Mark.

BACK UP! BACK UP! BACK UP! - I recently found out that after upgrading to Lightroom 3, I had lost some of my favorite photographs. I was not surprised to lose some of my beta work, but entire tiff files were lost, not only to LR3, they were wiped off of my working HD (which is external). Because I am slightly paranoid about backing up, I went to my second external HD where everything had been backed up. There they were. So I dragged and dropped them where I wanted them. What I realized once again was that after I have done post-processing, I need to back up that work. You can't have too many back ups.

A fine documentary shot of the water flow below the falls. Nicely done. I'm with you on backing up. I once had two external hard drives fail within two days of each other. One of the biggest worries with digital is potential for catastrophic loss.

How Come I don't remember any of this? This series is getting better becasue of it - thanks Jack These are so energizing yet restful, if that makes sense. Your images are beautiful.

I find this to be one of the most desirable waterfall images I have seen. Everyone always shoots the full falls but the beauty of this is that it's a different perspective. It gives an entirely different view and impact. Fresh and very appealing Jack!

Another gorgeous capture! I love your composition with the free form of the tree in front of the relatively "straight" flow of the waterfall. Nice contrasts as well.

Hiro from Kyoto, Japan

Does your son like photography ? I'm 48 years old. I would be happy if I could talk about photography, or go out to take photos with my father, who has been dead for three years.
Anyway, I like this one. 4/5 seconds blurs leaves foregrounds. I like the dynamic feeling.

3 Jul 2010 12:55pm

@Hiro: All three of our sons are photographers, but none of them are as passionate about it as I am. Our 40 year old is the best photographer and does some very fine work. Our 37 yr. old is big into technology and loves the video capability of still cameras. The one who turned 46 yesterday has maybe the best appreciation of fine art photography. They have all shared all of my passions: backpacking, ocean kayaking, mountain biking, road biking, etc.

Bethany from Michigan, United States

Lovely job with showing the motion of the water.
