More Waves

Posted by john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 2 January 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

GOAL FOR 2011 - I have one major goal for 2011 and that is to "listen." And by listen, I mean not only with my ears but with my entire being - I want to listen with my eyes, listen with my heart, listen with my intuition, listen with my deepest self. I seek to listen more fully to the world, certainly to other people, but also to the natural world with its unheard voices, and even to the world of mysticism. When it comes to photography, I want to listen in a more intentional and focused way to the light, to shape and design, to line and pattern, to color and tone, to the photographs of others, to critiques and insights, to the wisdom and genius of great photographers of the past. In listening, I want to listen more to my deepest self, to the artist within, to the vision that often seems to remain silent. To use the language of the Book of Common Prayer, I want to "read, mark, learn and inwardly digest," the gift of listening.

A great goal, and not an easy one. To listen requires that one calms the inner turmoil. Not easy in today's world.

I have read your wonderful thoughts dear friend ... poetic and sensitive. I think I can say that listening to yourself is all you say the most interesting and important ... this need to scream from the depths of our feelings. This heavenly music almost feel and hear when we face new spaces we want to photograph and share. Everyone should listen to other voices and learn other ways to listen to these voices magic of nature, humanity! I love reading your reflection friend Jack and your purpose is a good argument to pursue photography and art fills us with divine and fully! Thanks for letting me share in your intimate feelings friend. Good luck on this new challenge! A big kiss! You want your friend Adela

Nice timing here with that waves crashing on those rocks...beautiful capture..i,m sure your wish will come through...there is more knowledge in silence than one can imagine and if you let your higher self on the loose once in a while you are in for many great adventures...including awesome photography, but don,t be surprise if you find yourself getting poetic..and very subtle

3 Jan 2011 1:55pm

@StarCosmosBleu: thank you. poetry and music are the brother and sister of photography. i would rather have one photograph that is truly poetic than a thousand that are technically perfect

That is a wonderful capture, the with natural flow of the ocean caught in its movement. I absolutely love your words and what you say about listening. That is a great intention for this new year. There is so much to be discovered by paying attention in silence and observing. You are an inspiration.

A wonderful choice Jack, to listen. Often we do not listen.. feel.. see.. hear.. smell.. taste.. We get too wrapped up in our lives to remember that listening is what life is all about. I think I will join you in this listening and add some harmony to my life which has sorely lacked that peace. A lovely image. Keep listening.. we will all learn though you as well.

Very behind in viewing and commenting, but your profound words caught my heart, Jack, as I am admiring your photographs. Words for me to live by this year, and all years to come, as well. Thanks for this articulation, and for your lovely shots of my favorite subject the ocean and land that comes to meet her. Thanks, and a very happy new year to you.
