This was taken from right in front of our motel room. Note: at 12:30 pm, PT, I went back and put in a version with less intense reds and oranges around the sun.
Nikon D700 F/8.0 ISO 200 36 mm (35mm equiv.)
Did you alter the colour at all? This is just incredible!

@bluechameleon: It's an HDR photograph made from 5 bracketed shots and processed in HDR Efex Pro. I actually tried to tone down the colors after it all came together. You can see that the greens are quite natural looking.
Remarkable spot to look out upon from your room.
Let's face it--- nature is a show off...and you have captured her effects wonderfully ! :-)

17 Feb 2011 4:33pm
Wow - way over-cooked, yet that is its charm. An interesting composition as well.
17 Feb 2011 4:45pm
@Harry: surely you saw these garish colors when you were in the great Southwest :)) PS - at 12:30 pm, PT, I went back and lowered the intensity of the reds and oranges around the sun. Any further lowering of intensity would have been unfaithful to the way that it actually looked.
Fantastic shot! Nice colours and lighting...
17 Feb 2011 5:33pm
The special processing gives this shot tremendous eye-catching power. I like the subject matter which transforms very well with your clever touch!

17 Feb 2011 6:56pm
To be honest, this image made me shudder a bit from the assault on my eyes! But I think it would be wonderful with a lot less colour.
17 Feb 2011 7:27pm
@Andrea: there is a great diversity of opinion on the intensity of the colors (actually it's only the reds and oranges). if i wanted a print for framing, i would bring them down. PS - at 12:30 pm, PT, I went back and lowered the intensity of the reds and oranges around the sun. Any further lowering of intensity would have been unfaithful to the way that it actually looked.
wow wow wow! the colors are F A B U L O U S !!! **applause**

17 Feb 2011 10:13pm
17 Feb 2011 10:30pm
very very very saturated. however, it shows a nice variety of tones in this shot
17 Feb 2011 10:49pm
@JCJ: look at the greens; there is no saturation at all. i actually desaturated the reds and oranges. this was the way that it looked. this is mother nature's saturation
Fantastic picture! Increible colors. Very beautiful. Congratulations.
17 Feb 2011 10:52pm

18 Feb 2011 4:00am
Beautifully done, Jack. Really stunning photo. Love your choices here.
18 Feb 2011 4:27am
I would say that this is what your sensor caught, not the eye. a sunset photo can be very saturated. it's not a negative critique, the red dominant is eye catching and attractive.
18 Feb 2011 4:24pm
This image passed through your eyes, your mind and your imagination...you saw it, captured it and processed it according to your tastes talent philosophy, and imagination. All the others, above, including myself, might have - probably would have - arranged it in a slightly (or very) different way...it's called art. Just like a song taken by others and arranged in their own personal and emotional way. That;'s wehy I love your work! You do that! I know it is from you and I know that it is beautiful. Nuff said!
18 Feb 2011 5:01pm
@Denny Jump Photo: You are incredibly kind in your comments. I blush!!
Beautiful sunset...awesome landscape on the shores...superb colors
18 Feb 2011 5:49pm
That is definitely a colorful sunset!
18 Feb 2011 6:29pm
FANTASTIC! I love the intensity and vivid colors. I can understand how some feel it is too intense. But, I can see that this is more like the actual view that happened in front of you. The greens are exceptional.

Bravo pour la série
Une petite préférence pour celle-ci
20 Feb 2011 7:10am
