Bridalveil Mystical

Posted by
john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 13 April 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

The shutter speed when photographing waterfalls and creeks is very tricky. It needs to be short enough to give that magical look, but long enough to give some definition. For the next two photographs, I was going for a mystical feeling.

BANDON - we just returned from 3 days at Bandon-By-The-Sea, my very favorite spot on the entire West Coast. We were located on a bluff right above the Pacific. There were strong winds the first day, blowing sand everywhere. But the next two days were spectacular despite the forecast of rain. I'll start putting stuff up on the 24rh (the waterfalls series continues until then).

The colors are so very beautiful, much better than a blue, the green really adds and
makes the photo so wondrous. Superb work.

Well first off - You went down to Bandon and didn't take me with you?!? I have marked my calender...As for this, thank you so much for the tip, Jack. It makes I go out and try to get more water this spring, I will definitely think along those lines - always appreciate your guidance! This is extremely magical and I LOVE the mist. This image truly exemplifies a mystical scene completely...just magnificent Jack!

This a superb combination of the "mystical" blur and sharp detail in a couple of the small falls. Excellent in every way.

Beautifully captured! This evidently was a very animated waterfall as the slow shutter speed captures the misty look above the water near the upper right.

Definitely like this portrait framing better than the next post's horizontal. The swirling and russing water at the very bottom is a big plus.
