Glamor Glow plus Bleach Bypass

Tripod or Handheld - I know, I know; if you want real control and sharpness, use a tripod. Often I do, especially for macro work; and when I use a tripod, I tend to use Live View. However, at least 80% of my shots, including macro, are hand held. I love the flexibility. Plus, when I am shooting hand held, I do a much better job of working a subject or a scene. Unless I am very intentional, a tripod locks me in more than I like. With a D700, I can run up the ISO and shoot at a high shutter speed.

I'm with you on this one, Jack. Personally I also prefer shooting hand held. Beautiful color tones and composition.

Interesting thoughts to go with the image here. Despite all the clever tricks that come in the box these days, a shot from the tripod always seems to have the edge. That said, I seldom take a tripod out of the studio but always use one in there. We are strange creatures. Thankfully.

I almost never use a tripod, about 99% and more are hand-held. This is a beautiful capture of one of my favorite flowers. Useless trivia: My hard-drive is named TigerLily ;-)

Interesting about your use of live view. Do you have one of those add-on "Mini tents with a lens" that you attach to the back of the camera? I find live view to be useless-there's too much ambient light to really see the screen, and to see the detail, I need to get closer to the screen than my eyes allow. What's your method?

@CElliottUK: For the most part, I haven't had problems with the ambient light. If I do, I use a Hoodman loupe

A fine image today. I like the deep color and details. Interesting comment on your feelings about being tied to a tripod. I have a neat one that I rarely use for much of the same reasons you cite.

This processing suits this image well. A nicely composed close-up. I am never satisfied with mine where I cut off petals, but this one works.

This harmony of colors is splendid, magnificent image. Like you I do not use a tripod for my macros, I did it all freehand. Good day.

Beautiful. I seldom use a tripod, but it's just that I'm too lazy to carry it around. Sometimes I sure do wish I had it with me though. ;-)

I also find that the tripod becomes very limiting. This is very beautiful.
