Old Photo

Posted by john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 26 September 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

I did this for fun. Personally I don't think that it comes close to yesterday's version.

Spotlight - thank you for your kind words.

Steve Rice from Olympia, United States

I agree. It looks pale in comparison. But, the toning has a certain character.

I do like these tones but the warm light of the original is the one I favour.

Eric Cousineau from Sherwood Park, Canada

I agree Jack; however it does have a certain nostalgic feel to it! ;-)

26 Sep 2011 11:43am

RBL from Oxford, United States

I really like this effect...it reminds me of a brown on brown duotone! I like both versions!

franz from Baden, Austria

i agree with you, jack, but experimenting is so much fun ... and the result isn't bad at all (only yd's post was even better ... ;-))

26 Sep 2011 7:38pm

@franz: if i had posted this variation first, my hunch is that people would have liked this version better. then when yesterday's original was posted, they would like it more

marci from in, Morocco

had the same thought as Steve ... it "pales" in comparison. *wink*

26 Sep 2011 7:57pm

@marci: like i told franz, i should have put this one up first

Frozen in time....beautiful composition with splendid tones.

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

Interesting processing, but I agree with your assessment. Yesterday's photos really lets the presence of fog establish itself and the "punch" of green is really effective.

26 Sep 2011 10:34pm

@Steven: In part this was a demonstration of the way in which different images lend themselves to one or the other (rarely both equally well).

Jackie from Montréal, Canada

Beautiful picture! I like the nostalgic look.

It has that silvery vintage look. I loved yesterday's for it's colors and great atmosphere. This has it's own charm, though.
