Deschutes Square Fun

Posted by john4jack (Corvallis, Oregon, United States) on 6 December 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

This is the November 24 post cropped to a square aspect ratio.

Nikon D700 1/200 second F/9.0 ISO 800 145 mm (35mm equiv.)

Steve from Camdenton, United States

I do like this crop better than the previous one. This one tells more of the story of what is going on.

The focus on rich color and detail is wonderful. The square format often eliminates unnecessary peripheral information from the original frame.

Very interesting exercise, Jack. I like the original version with the rushing water in the foreground. However, this square crop is better - what I like is the way you frame the colours and textures of the cliff face - the most interesting aspect to the image.

I like both of them.

Love the border as well, Jack...A very beautiful image and also really compels me to visit there ;-)

The square format looks good. I used to shoot with a Rolleiflex which produced square negatives… fine alternative to the rectangles we use all the time.

What rich colors and strong current in the water. Love the cliffs.

I always think when I see stones like this on the face of a cliff, they provide an ancient
beauty or patina that only the vast space of time can give. Magnificent.
