I woke up a week ago at 5:30 am, hoping for a spectacular sunrise. My timing was perfect for getting out of the door. Unfortunately, my down jacket was not where I had hung it up. I spent 10 min. looking for where it had been moved. As I drove toward the trailhead, I saw layers of color like I had never seen before (and at 80 probably will never see again in my lifetime). It was pure magic. However, by the time I got my boots on and walked the 200 yards for a place to take photographs, the magic was gone; the colors had faded. With some strong post processing, I was able to pull some color out, but nothing like what I ever so briefly saw driving up. That 10 min. made the difference between great joy and despondency. The good news - I got over it fast.
